By default, Gmail groups a message and all its replies in a conversation thread. Threads are great once you get accustomed to them, as you can see multiple related messages in a single view. Nonetheless, if you prefer to list messages separately because you are used to it in Outlook, you can turn the Conversation view off. It is simple to switch back at any time. 1. Find the option Settings on the top right and then click Settings again. 2. Find the General tab, scroll to Conversation View and select Conversation view off. 3. Scroll down and click on Save Changes. You can also add a preview pane, add a signature for your messages or adjust the keyboard shortcuts to make them more like the ones you were used to.

If you want to import contacts from Outlook to Gmail or to export contacts from Outlook to Gmail, you will have to wait for the next release of CB Gmail Exchange Sync - coming soon. This new version will be able to sync contacts, email messages, attachments to notes and tasks, and even folders.

It is common to initially use your Outlook account for both personal and professional issues and then decide to create a Gmail account just for the personal items. You then need to move the folders you had for your personal matters moved into Gmail. To move just specific folders, you'll need to 1. Add your Gmail account to your Outlook 2. Export your folders into an Outlook PST file. The specific location where you can export will vary depending on what version of Outlook you have. For example, in Outlook for Office 365, you need to open File -> Open & Export -> Import /Export. 3. Import that file back into Outlook, but into a Personal folder that is separate from your default Gmail Inbox. To import, click File -> Open & Export -> Import /Export -> Import from another program or file -> Outlook Data File (.pst). Select the PST file you previously exported, then pick the email folders that you want to import and click Finish. 4. Use drag and drop to get the email folders where you want them, then you can go back to Gmail itself, and the folders you moved will be there. 

To transfer all the emails, you should first enter your Gmail account. Then select the Settings icon in the top right corner of the page (it looks like a cog wheel). Tap Settings. At the top of the Settings page, select the Accounts and Import tab. In the Import mail and contacts section, select Import mail and contacts. Please note that if you have previously imported, this option will read Import from another address. At this point, you simply indicate your Outlook account and the import procedure will run automatically between the two. This applies to any Exchange, Office 365 or Hotmail account.

If you want to add Gmail to Outlook 2010, you will have, in fact, to configure Gmail in Outlook 2010. However, to start the procedure, you'll need to go to Gmail first. Log in to your Gmail account and open your settings page (click on the cog wheel-shaped icon on the top right). Open the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab and make sure POP is enabled. You either enable POP access for all new mail that arrives, or for all mail in your Gmail account in general. You'll also be asked about whether you want to keep Gmail's copy in the Inbox. Selecting this will enable you to access your emails on the Gmail side as well. Now, go into Outlook and add a new POP account. Start by clicking File and then select Add Account under Account Information. Outlook 2010 can often find and configure your account based just on your email address and password. Enter these, then click Next to let Outlook try to set it up automatically. If Outlook succeeds in finding and configuring your account automatically, you will see a message of Congratulations on screen. If not, you can go back and manually configure the account.

Once you have set up a Gmail account, switching from Outlook to Gmail can be done in a simple sequence: 1. Transfer the emails as we saw in the section How to transfer emails from Outlook to Gmail 2. Set up calendar synchronization using CB Gmail Exchange Sync 3. Configure Gmail to look more like Outlook during the initial transition period, to make adoption of the new system easier (see the How to make Gmail look like Outlook section).

If you want to add Gmail to Outlook, you will have to follow the procedure described in the section How to config Gmail in Outlook 2010. This will handle the email messages part. For the calendar, you should set up CB Gmail Exchange Sync.

Gmail and Microsoft Exchange are not necessarily on two separate worlds. You can add an Exchange account on Android via the built-in Gmail App. You can also use the web interface and add a Microsoft Exchange account to Gmail (see How to transfer emails from Outlook to Gmail). When using the Gmail app, please note that the app update released on Nov 5, 2019 caused users to get the following error message when trying to access their Exchange account "Update your Exchange account - Can't add account. Gmail's security settings are more secure than those set by your IT admin. Contact your IT admin for help". This was eventually fixed later by a new update to the Gmail app.

You can add a Microsoft Exchange account to Gmail using the web interface (see How to transfer emails from Outlook to Gmail). You can also do it in the Gmail app. If you experience the Can't add account error, have a look at the section What is Gmail exchange.

Having Exchange email forwarded to Gmail is a bit trickier than what you may think. If you are an end-user, you need to use Outlook or another email client to set up the forwarding. That means that if you take Outlook, going to the rules section and adding a rule that forwards the emails as they are received by Outlook. This has two main caveats. The first one is that the forwarding is only done when the email is received by Outlook. This means that if you don't open Outlook, then no forwarding occurs. The second one is that you need to adjust your forwarding settings to ensure that spam is not forwarded to Gmail. This is virtually impossible on Outlook and needs to be handled on the server-side, by the Exchange admin.

The Mail app on your iPhone or iOS device can be set up to receive Gmail or Exchange emails automatically. Setting up the Mail app to receive and send email is a bit different depending on the type of email account you have - Gmail / G Suite or Exchange account.
